Life After Move-In So Far...

Just a small update. It has been about 3 weeks since we have moved into our new apt. It has been a little so moving in getting everything unpacked, but we were able to do so last weekend. Looks like we actually live here now. The complex and area we live in is cute amazing, although waking up everyday and looking out the window to doggies being walked by their humans is kind of saddening and fun at the same time. It reminds us that we do not have a doggie just yet but we are thinking about it, and if everything works out we may have a little four legged friend running around come August. :) Life here in La Jolla/San Diego is great, the only downside is the commute I have back to Orange County every week for work until I find a full-time job down here. Luckily I can sleep at my parents' house the days I am working. Job hunting is not fun and I hope it ends soon so I don't have to drive that 95 mile (one way) drive every week. Anyway, thats about it. Here are a few pictures of the interior of the apt. Enjoy.

New Year-Exciting Beginnings

Hello all!
It is a brand new year, 2011, and I have decided to start blogging about life in this coming year. Its only about 4 weeks in and is looking pretty amazing so far. Let us start a bit earlier than the new year at right before Christmas. As some may know, Dan was in a car accident on his way to work one morning. He hit an oil slick and fishtailed to a spin out and hit the left side guard rail. Long story short, his poor Jetta was totaled by the insurance company. :( Even though this happened something good came out of it. With the money he received for his Jetta he made a down payment on another newer car. You will now see him driving a 2008 4 dr Rabbit. Of course it is a manual, he refuses to drive an automatic...psh. It is now deemed the Jetta's younger brother. He seems to like it very much.
Christmas was great but as always a bit crazy in my family. We spent Christmas Eve with my family...always entertaining. Its a very chaotic situation trying to get 20+ people to sit around a long table at the same time. Everyone's talking over each other, you would think someone is having an argument just because the conversations are so loud. But all in all it eventually worked out. Then after all us adults were good and at out fun levels, non other than Mr Santa Claus showed up. We say its for the kids, but I think its actually for the adults. Every year since I can remember someone has always been Santa. This year it was cousin Mik, who did it reluctantly but in the end did a pretty good job. (We all think its Dan's turn next year) The following day, Christmas, was spent opening whatever gifts were left under the tree with the parents and brother. Grandma also stopped by and we did gifts with her. Then it was off to San Diego for Christmas pt 2 with Dan's family. We met at his aunt's house, all 8 of us, and had a nice lunch and exchanged gifts. I had not recovered from the previous night because my ears were still ringing and I could actually hear myself. The fact that our families are so drastically different in size and energy is just a great balance. Then it was the 26th and Christmas had officially come and gone in a snap.
On to the New Year. As many know New Years is not a very fun time in my life, or it has not been for the past couple years. The reason being is that I literally work 6 days a week with one day off for about 4 weeks straight, all of which starts pretty much New Years Eve. I always work New Years day, so there really is not any room for partying. This year was a bit different, not in terms of work, but in terms of what I did. I was house-sitting/pet-sitting for the Deckers at their apt in LB, so I had a place to myself. Dan had gone to the Bay area to visit his friends for New Years. He has been wanting to go, and since he couldn't go the past 2 years I just said for him to go. I was not going to be fun because I was working. He seemed to have a great time, although I am not entirely sure I want to know all that happened. ;) For me, New Years Eve was spent with a cheeseburger and cajun fries from Five Guys, a bottle of Framboise, a doggie and kitteh, and watching an awesome documentary about street art called Exit Through the Gift Shop. I was in bed by 10. Then for the next few weeks I was a slave to my job and gritted my teeth the whole way through it, although the month's paychecks were well worth it.
I know this is getting long, but bear with me, I am getting to the good part. Dan and I have been together nearly 3 years now and both have been living at our parents' house at 100 miles apart. We make it work to see each other on the weekends, and any other time we have free. Although it has worked for this long it is getting old and we are both over it. We have been talking for a while about getting an apartment together. Since he has his full time good paying job, we have decided that I would move down to San Diego. We had a vague idea of when that would be, in the spring, but were not really sure. We checked Craigslist constantly and were deciding what area of SD we wanted to live. We both realized that we really love La Jolla and the fact that it is a very active community, or at least I like that part. This past weekend I went down to see Dan and his mom, who I had not seen for a month since I'd been working, and we went looking at a few places. The first place we stopped was Las Flores apartment complex in La Jolla Colony. We really liked the complex and the area, which has a huge park right between that complex and another one, along with jogging trails. After we went home and crunched our numbers to figure out what we could afford. Then we drove around other neighborhoods closer to downtown but could not really find anything we liked or clicked, we kept thinking about the Las Flores complex. So on Sunday, yesterday, we went back and they were going to have all 3 1 bdrm (from 687-709sf) available in mid-Feb. We went and found where each of the apts were located on the property, talked a while since it was a hard choice. Do we go with the 694 sf with a walk-in that has no view for a bit cheaper, or do we go with the 687 sf with no walk-in but has an amazing view of the park for a bit more? We ultimately decided to go with the latter. So we went back to the leasing office, applied for it, paid the security deposit and got the special move-in price, which ended that day but we were that last ones to get it. Huzzah! As you may have guessed by now, as of today, since the credit checks out, we have an apartment in La Jolla colony and our move-in is Feb 26. Yes, that is 31 days away. Aaahhh!! I am still looking for a full-time job down there, but in the mean time I will be still working in Orange County, and living at home for the days I work, most likely on an air mattress since all my stuff will be at the apt. So the first few months will be interesting, but we will make it work. Its a very exciting time for us, and this year looks like it will be a very good one. Hope you all had a very fabulous January. :)
